Question 1

Do grind settings differ between coffee grinders?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every grinder brand uses its own scale of clicks or numbers, so a "fine" setting on a Baratza Encore is a completely different number than "fine" on a Comandante C40. There is no universal grind number — settings must be converted relative to burr size and adjustment range.

Question 2

What grind setting should I use for espresso?

Accepted Answer

Espresso needs a fine grind, typically in the lowest 10–20% of your grinder's adjustment range. On a Baratza Encore this is roughly clicks 1–6; on a Comandante C40 roughly 5–12 clicks.

Question 3

How do I convert grind settings between two different grinders?

Accepted Answer

Convert by relative position rather than raw numbers — figure out what percentage of the grinder's total range a setting represents, then find the equivalent percentage on the other grinder. Our grind size converter automates this for 8 popular grinders.

Grinder	Type	Recommended Setting	Typical Pour Over Range
Baratza Encore	Electric burr	19 clicks	14–23 clicks
Baratza Virtuoso+	Electric burr	19 clicks	14–23 clicks
Baratza Sette 270	Electric burr	14 macro.micro	10–17 macro.micro
